The FDA approval covers the frown lines between the brows only. The on-label dose is 20 units. Onset is 2 to 3 days, and it holds 3 to 4 months.
Jeuveau® does one thing. Approved for the frown lines between the brows only, which makes it an uncomplicated first injectable. It is a purified botulinum toxin type A, molecule name prabotulinumtoxinA-xvfs, manufactured by Daewoong Pharmaceutical, distributed in the United States by Evolus, Inc., and approved by the FDA in February 2019. Jeuveau® carries a single indication: moderate to severe frown lines between the brows, called the glabellar lines after the glabella, the patch of skin between your eyebrows and just above your nose.
That single approved area is part of why it is often somebody's first neuromodulator. Jeuveau® used in the forehead, at the crow's feet or in the masseter is an off-label use, meaning the FDA has not reviewed that particular use: the medicine is the same, and that indication has not been through approval. Off-label prescribing is legal and common in medicine. You will hear which one you are being offered before you consent.
The frown quietens. Brows still lift, eyes still crease. Jeuveau® blocks acetylcholine at the neuromuscular junction, so corrugators and procerus stop contracting.
Units do not convert between brands, because potency assays differ.
