Sculptra® is injectable poly-L-lactic acid, a biostimulator: your body builds its own type I collagen rather than receiving gel. Most patients need 3 sessions, 4 to 6 weeks apart. Change begins around week 6 and builds through month 6. Effect was measurable at 25 months.
Sculptra® is a biostimulator, not a filler: poly-L-lactic acid reconstituted with sterile water for injection, placed in the deep dermis or subcutaneous plane.
Sculptra® Aesthetic is FDA-approved for correction of shallow to deep nasolabial fold contour deficiencies and other facial wrinkles, with cheek wrinkles added in 2023, in immune-competent people, which means people whose immune system is working normally. In the United States it is a class III prescription medical device approved through premarket approval, not a drug. Treating the temples, jawline, neck, décolleté, hands or buttocks is off-label, as is volumizing a face that has no wrinkle to correct. Off-label use is legal and common in medicine, and it means the FDA has not reviewed that particular use: the material is the same, the indication has not been through approval.
What you carry is your own tissue. Particles provoke a controlled response: fibroblasts lay down collagen over six to twelve weeks.

Sculptra® (injectable poly-L-lactic acid) — One vial contains 150 mg of PLLA. Reconstituted with sterile water for injection ahead of the appointment and injected in the deep dermis or subcutaneous plane. A prescription medical device, not a drug. Not reversible.
Sterile water for injection — A higher reconstitution volume and a longer hydration interval before injection are associated with lower nodule risk. The volume and interval used here are set by protocol and confirmed against current instructions for use.
Lidocaine 1% — Added at the time of treatment rather than during hydration. Topical numbing is available separately. Known amide anesthetic allergy is screened for at assessment.
Hyaluronic acid filler (Juvéderm®, Restylane®) — Immediate, shapeable and reversible with hyaluronidase. A different mechanism on a different timeline.

Most people describe pressure rather than sharp pain. Lidocaine is added to the vial, and a blunt cannula is more comfortable in some areas. Afterwards it feels like a deep bruise for a day or two.
No, and that is the trade Sculptra® asks for. There is no reversal agent, because what changes is your own collagen rather than an implanted gel, and hyaluronidase has nothing to act on here. That is why the first session is deliberately the smallest.
That fullness was the diluent, not collagen. It absorbs within a few days to a week, and most patients then sit at their starting point for several weeks. Change usually begins around week six.
Nodules are small firm papules under the skin, usually not visible to anyone else, reported in a minority of Sculptra® patients. They appear months later and often settle with massage or time. Persistent ones are treated in clinic.
The deciding question is whether you need shape or thickness. Hyaluronic acid filler gives a same-day, shapeable, reversible result. Sculptra® builds diffuse thickness over months and cannot be reversed. Many plans use both, in sequence.
Only if the wedding is at least six months away. Sculptra® shows nothing for six weeks and keeps changing through month six, so a date inside four months falls mid-build. Bring the date and we build backwards.
No, and that area asks for a different material. Sculptra® labeling advises against injection in the periorbital area, the ring of thin skin around the eye, and in the lips. Nodule risk is higher in thin, mobile skin, and poly-L-lactic acid cannot be dissolved. Under-eye hollowing is assessed separately, with products that can be.
Nothing punishing happens. Stopping returns the tissue to its own trajectory: the collagen you built remodels away across a year or two, and nothing rebounds below where you started. Some patients do one series and never come back.
