The Restylane® collection is a family of hyaluronic acid fillers from Galderma, all at 20 mg per mL. Crosslinking separates them: NASHA® gels stay firm against bone, XpresHAn Technology™ gels stretch as the face moves. Duration runs 6 to 18 months by area.
Most people arrive holding a name. Five gels do most of the work here. What separates them is crosslinking: stitching that joins loose strands into a stable gel.
What you notice months later is whether the filler still moves like your face. NASHA® gels, Restylane-L® and Lyft, are firm particles that hold their shape. XpresHAn Technology™ gels stretch under movement and return.

Restylane-L® — NASHA® gel supplied with 0.3% lidocaine. FDA-approved for submucosal lip augmentation in patients over 21, and for mid-to-deep dermal correction of moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds such as the nasolabial fold. Firm enough to hold a lip border.
Restylane® Lyft — The firmest gel in the family, made both with and without 0.3% lidocaine. FDA-approved for cheek augmentation and correction of age-related midface contour deficiency in patients over 21, for moderate to severe facial folds, and for dorsal hand volume deficit. Placed on bone in small increments, or it reads as a ridge. Chin and jawline use is off-label.
Restylane® Contour — XpresHAn Technology™ gel with 0.3% lidocaine. FDA-approved for cheek augmentation and correction of age-related midface contour deficiencies in patients over 21. Chosen over Lyft when the midface needs support that still moves with expression.
Restylane® Defyne — The firmer of the Refyne and Defyne pair, supplied with 0.3% lidocaine. FDA-approved for chin augmentation to correct retrogenia, meaning a chin that sits back behind the lower lip, in adults over 21, and for mid-to-deep dermal correction of moderate to severe deep facial wrinkles and folds. Usually the first choice when a chin reads short on the profile view.
Restylane® Refyne — The softest crosslink of the five gels used here, supplied with 0.3% lidocaine. FDA-approved for mid-to-deep dermal correction of moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds such as nasolabial folds. Used where a firmer gel would look set, such as a mobile lower face.

This part is the shortest. Numbing sits 15 to 20 minutes; you see the result in a mirror.

A single area runs 30 to 45 minutes including numbing, and your face is read upright in even light before any product is named.
Give it two weeks before you judge it. Hyaluronic acid draws water in, so the first 48 hours overstate the result.
Both are hyaluronic acid with different crosslinking chemistry. Restylane® gels are more particulate and stay where they are placed; Juvéderm® gels are smoother and blend more evenly. The area decides which one is opened.
Restylane-L® is the lip product in this collection, and submucosal lip augmentation in patients over 21 is an FDA-approved use for it. The submucosa is the soft layer just beneath the wet lining inside the lip, deep enough that gel there adds fullness without showing as a ridge. Most first-time lips take 0.5 to 1 mL.
Restylane® gels run 6 to 18 months depending on the area, because a gel breaks down faster where tissue moves. Midface and chin usually run 12 to 18 months; lips 9 to 12, hands 6 to 12.
It stings briefly, then it is mostly pressure. Topical numbing sits 15 to 20 minutes, and most of these gels carry 0.3% lidocaine. The lip is the most sensitive region treated.
Yes. Every gel in the Restylane® family is hyaluronic acid, and hyaluronidase, an enzyme that breaks the gel apart, removes it, usually within a day or two. The same enzyme is what makes the urgent correction possible if filler ever presses on a blood vessel.
Using these five gels under the eye is an off-label use, which means the FDA has approved the product but has not reviewed that particular site. Other hyaluronic acid fillers do hold a US indication for the infraorbital hollow, including Juvéderm® Volbella® XC. Worth knowing before you book: the under-eye has more than one cause. Thin skin, fluid retention, and a hollow that is really a shadow cast by a flat cheek all look alike and respond differently.
Most single-area plans take 1 to 2 mL, and lips usually 0.5 to 1 mL at a first appointment. A chin or midface often takes more, and a larger correction is staged across visits.

Hyaluronic acid can move, most visibly in the lip, and it is usually placement and volume rather than the product. Gel above the vermilion border, where lip meets skin, has little holding it.
Most of it is ordinary, and one thing is not. Bruising, swelling and tenderness settle within 3 to 7 days; lumps are less common. The rare and serious one is vascular occlusion, where filler blocks a blood vessel and cuts off the blood supply to the skin that vessel feeds; left untreated it can cause skin necrosis or, very rarely, vision loss. Escalating pain, blanching or dusky skin require urgent assessment. Any change in vision is an emergency; seek emergency care immediately. Discuss complication management and aftercare contact arrangements before treatment.
