You came for a comparison, and there is a real one. The area treated decides more than the brand.

Botox®, Dysport® and Jeuveau® are botulinum toxin type A injections. All three are FDA-approved for the frown lines; only Botox® also covers crow's feet, forehead lines and platysma bands. Effect typically runs 3 to 4 months. A Dysport® unit is about a third of a Botox® unit; unit counts do not compare.
The first difference is the unit. Each manufacturer defines its own, so a Dysport® unit and a Botox® unit are not the same quantity. Three molecules: onabotulinumtoxinA, abobotulinumtoxinA, prabotulinumtoxinA-xvfs.
Your face stops pulling so hard on its own skin. A relaxer works on the wire, not the muscle, blocking acetylcholine at the neuromuscular junction where nerve meets muscle.

| Product | Molecule | FDA-approved cosmetic areas | Typical onset | Typical duration | Field of effect from the injection point | Units and dosing | Cost structure | Where it is typically used |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Botox® Cosmetic | onabotulinumtoxinA | Frown lines, crow's feet, forehead lines, platysma bands | 3 to 7 days | 3 to 4 months | Reported tighter at equal dilution | The reference scale. Label dose for frown lines is 20 units | Contact the practice for current pricing. | Brow shaping, crow's feet, anything needing a tight field |
| Dysport® | abobotulinumtoxinA | Frown lines only; other cosmetic areas are off-label | 2 to 3 days | 3 to 4 months | Reported slightly wider at equal dilution; dilution matters more than brand | Roughly 2.5 to 3 Dysport® units per 1 Botox® unit. Label dose for frown lines is 50 units | Contact the practice for current pricing. | Wide foreheads, bulky glabellar complexes, larger muscle mass |
| Jeuveau® | prabotulinumtoxinA-xvfs | Frown lines only; other cosmetic areas are off-label | 2 to 3 days | 3 to 4 months | Reported comparable to Botox® at equal dilution | Approximately 1:1 with Botox® units in our practice. Label dose for frown lines is 20 units | Contact the practice for current pricing. | Frown lines, where a Botox®-like unit count is the goal |
Onset, duration and field-of-effect ranges below come from current U.S. product labeling, separate product trials and observation in practice rather than from a single head-to-head comparison. No winner here, only a better fit for a given face.
Botox® Cosmetic (onabotulinumtoxinA) — The widest FDA-approved cosmetic footprint of the three, and the unit scale most published dosing is written in. Comparative work reports a tighter field of effect at equal dilution, which is the property that matters around the brow and eyelid.
Dysport® (abobotulinumtoxinA) — For cosmetic use, FDA-approved for frown lines only; every other cosmetic area is off-label use. Comparative work reports a slightly wider field of effect at the same dilution, though dilution and injection volume influence spread more than brand does. Contains cow's-milk protein.
Jeuveau® (prabotulinumtoxinA-xvfs) — FDA-approved for frown lines only, and cosmetic-only by design; it carries no therapeutic indications. Converts at approximately 1:1 with Botox® units in our practice. Reported onset of 2 to 3 days overlaps the Botox® range rather than clearly beating it.
We start by watching your face move. Product and dose follow muscle bulk, asymmetry and previous doses.
You see the number before anything is opened. Product, unit count and total, written down first.
The quick part: one to two minutes per area, and most patients report a brief sting.
Where a first treatment gets finished. At day 14 units go where movement is stronger than planned.

You frown, raise, squint and smile before anything is drawn up. Most patients drive and work the same day.
Whichever product goes in, the version worth judging arrives two weeks later. The onset ranges overlap, and come from separate product trials rather than a head-to-head study.

The cost depends on your treatment plan. Call (614) 425-1633 for current pricing and ask what consultation, treatment, and follow-up charges apply.
Dysport® and Jeuveau® show change in 2 to 3 days, Botox® in 3 to 7. Ranges overlap and come from separate trials, not head-to-head. All three reach full effect around day 14, so onset matters near an event.
Not in itself. Comparative studies report a slightly wider field for Dysport® at equal dilution: good for a broad forehead from fewer points, less so near the eyelid. Dilution and volume influence spread more than brand.
Yes, switching between botulinum toxin products is routine. Tell us which product you had, how many units, and how long it lasted. The dose is converted onto the new unit scale, not copied across. Give it one cycle.
No, not reliably. All three typically last 3 to 4 months, and head-to-head work has not established a difference. Duration changes with dose, muscle strength, area treated and metabolism. Underdosing is the commonest reason a result fades early.
Your number follows the muscle, not the wrinkle. The label dose for frown lines is 20 Botox® units, 50 Dysport® units or 20 Jeuveau® units. First treatments start below that and are adjusted at two weeks.
Yes, though uncommon. Some patients develop neutralizing antibodies that bind the toxin before it reaches the nerve ending. The risk goes with frequent treatment and high doses, not brand. Treating no more often than every three months protects.
It rules out Dysport®, and leaves you two alternatives. Dysport® contains cow's-milk protein and is contraindicated in patients with a known allergy to it. Botox® and Jeuveau® do not contain milk protein. Mention any reaction to a previous botulinum toxin product as well, since a hypersensitivity to one preparation rules out the whole class.
Botox® is the only one of the three FDA-approved for forehead lines; treating the forehead with Dysport® or Jeuveau® is an off-label use, which means the FDA has not reviewed that specific use, and it is legal and common. Dysport® is often chosen for wide foreheads, because it covers a broad field from fewer points. There is no best one here, only a difference in approval and in spread.
It wears off; waiting is the only way to remove it. None of the three dissolves, so a result that is too strong softens over 3 to 4 months. Too light is correctable, so first doses start low.
All botulinum toxin products carry an FDA boxed warning: effects may spread from the injection site hours to weeks after treatment and cause swallowing or breathing difficulties that can be life-threatening. These are prescription medicines, injected only after a provider assessment. Seek emergency care for trouble swallowing, speaking or breathing.

Botox® Cosmetic is FDA-approved in adults for moderate to severe glabellar (frown) lines, lateral canthal lines (crow's feet), forehead lines and moderate to severe platysma prominence (platysma bands). For cosmetic use, Dysport® and Jeuveau® are FDA-approved for moderate to severe glabellar (frown) lines only. Any other area treated with these products, including the masseter and the lip flip, is an off-label use, which is legal and common, and we name it before you consent.
